Kaizer Chiefs key player to miss the Soweto Derby this weekend

Kaizer Chiefs winger and key player Wandile Duba will not feature in this weekend’s Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

The 20-year-old forward will sit out for the sold-out affair after picking up his fourth booking of the season, resulting in a suspension. Duba, however, will be available for the Nedbank Cup final a week later against the Buccaneers.

Duba has been Kaizer Chiefs‘ key player in recent matches and scored against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-final. The youngster received a yellow card during Chiefs’ 2-1 defeat to Marumo Gallants this past weekend.

Other Amakhosi treading on thin ice to miss the second derby are Inacio Miguel, Mduduzi Shabalala, Pule Mmodi and Tashreeq Morris. If any of the players are booked on Saturday, they will sit out in the final.

Kaizer Chiefs to be without their key player

Amakhosi are at risk of missing out on another top-eight finish for the second successive season. With only three matches remaining, Chiefs need to win all of them to stand a realistic chance of finishing instead the top half of the table.

Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi took over in July, hoping to get the Glamour Boys to winning ways, but it has been a hit-and-miss season. Nedbank Cup triumph is the only thing that can salvage their poor season. With a key player like Rushwin Dortley injured, Kaizer Chiefs have looked vulnerable at the back. Miguel’s return to action next weekend could be a curse or a blessing for Amakhosi, especially if he gets booked in the first derby. He is one yellow card from suspension.
