Kaizer Chiefs eye North African-based Nigerian star in off-season overhaul.

The Glamour Boys have widened their transfer search as they hunt for firepower up front, and winger Kingsley Michael, currently playing in Tunisia, has re-emerged as a prime target.

Armed with a significantly increased transfer budget, the Soweto giants are now scouting talent across the continent in a bold bid to rebuild their squad. Chiefs’ ambition is clear, to bring quality reinforcements to Naturena ahead of next season.

“He is currently playing in Tunisia and there are scouts who have been monitoring him there and he has been doing very well. That’s why he is back on Chiefs’ radar. They haven’t finalised the shopping list for next season as they are still looking at the players which they can afford and get. Kingsley Michael is one of those they are considering,” a source revealed.

Michael: Scouted and back on the radar

Chiefs have monitored Kingsley Michael before, but now, with him plying his trade in Tunisia at US Monastir, the club finds it easier to evaluate his performances.

The move could be even smoother thanks to head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s strong links in Tunisian football. With his network and local insights, Nabi is well-placed to judge whether Michael fits the club’s tactical needs.

Kaizer Chiefs: Who is Michael?

The 25-year-old Nigerian brings valuable European experience to the table. Michael previously played in Italy for Serie A side Bologna and Serie B outfit Cremonese. He also featured in Austria with SV Ried and DSV Leoben before moving to North Africa.

Now at US Monastir, Michael has returned from injury and appeared in six matches so far this season, although he’s yet to get on the scoresheet. According to Transfermarkt, his current contract runs until June 2026, which means Chiefs may need to pay a premium to bring him to South Africa.

Chiefs have made their intentions clear with a bigger budget and broader scouting approach. Whether they can close the deal for Kingsley Michael remains to be seen, but the pursuit signals a new era of ambition for the Amakhosi.
