Kaizer Chiefs end long term pursuit of African star

Kaizer Chiefs have officially stepped away from their extended chase of prolific DR Congo forward Fiston Mayele, according to Soccer Laduma. With preparations underway for next season’s continental campaign, the Soweto giants are changing their strategy after months of negotiations and increasing obstacles.

Amakhosi had long identified Mayele as a key target to improve their attacking line. However, transfer complications have now forced the club to call time on the deal.

Transfer troubles force Chiefs hand

The club’s decision stems from challenges that proved too difficult to overcome. A source revealed the factors that led to the collapse of the deal.

“Almost every time they want to sign him the price goes up because there are other clubs interested in him as well, and now it’s believed that Pyramids are extending his contract which makes it even harder to convince them to let him go. So it’s for these reasons that the club is believed to have reached a decision to give up on Mayele for now,” said the source.

The Egyptian outfit’s reluctance to negotiate and their attempts to secure Mayele with an extended contract have significantly increased the striker’s price tag. Chiefs do not want to be caught in a bidding war. And have decided to walk away, at least for now.

Attack force already in place

Currently, Kaizer Chiefs boast four recognised strikers in Wandile Duba, Ashley Du Preez, Ranga Chivaviro, and Tashreeq Morris. This attack and their below par performance, is the reason why Amakhosi will be looking elsewhere for a proven forward.

The source added that unless Pyramids FC’s stance changes dramatically, there is little chance Chiefs will reignite their interest.

Chiefs show transfer market maturity

The decision to end their relentless pursuit of Mayele reflects a more pragmatic and disciplined approach by the Chiefs’ leadership. Rather than overspending or allowing themselves to be dragged into inflated deals, the club appears focused on value and sustainability.

Should Kaizer Chiefs break the bank for Mayele or not?
