Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabihas paid some homage to Amakhosi legends Doctor Khumalo and Siphiwe Tshabalala after his team beat Richards Bay FC on Wednesday.
BETWAY PREMIERSHIP: KAIZER CHIEFS 2-1 RICHARDS BAY
Man of the match, Yusuf Maart, created an assist in each half for Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez’s goals before Yenela Mbuthuma pulled one back for the Natal Rich Boys.
The victory propelled Kaizer Chiefs to sixth place and 11 points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates.
Speaking to the media after the match, coach Nabi said the team has a long way to go before it reaches the level of Doctor Khumalo and Siphiwe Tshabalala’s Kaizer Chiefs teams.
“A win does not mean the process is good. It’s not good. This is Kaizer Chiefs,” Nabi told SuperSport TV after the game.
“The level must be very high at Kaizer Chiefs. Need more work in the 3rd zone. This is not the Kaizer Chiefs of [Siphiwe] Tshabalala and Doctor Khumalo. We need to get to that level,” concluded the Tunisian coach.
BRIAN BALOYI DISAPPOINTED IN AMAKHOSI AND ITUMELENG KHUNE
Kaizer Chiefs and Itumeleng Khune have seemingly part ways but without the due formality.
As far as the reports, Kaizer Chiefs have forced Itumeleng Khune into retirement despite his willingness to continue playing until age 40 or beyond.
“Disappointed, saddened, heartbroken,” Baloyi told #PrimeSportsWithMahlatse, as quoted by iDiski Times.
“Yeah, so, for me it could have been managed much better from both ends. Blame must not only go to the club, but it must also go as well to his team, must go to him as a person.
“After all is said and done, I think as a man, you have to take responsibility and stop the blame game and take the responsibility.
“I was chatting to friends a week ago, I said, ‘Look at the last 5-6 years he’s played less than 50 games’.
“I’m saying, imagine if he put everything in his life on hold and focused on himself, focused on his career. Six years, easy give or take is about 200-250 games.
“You would be sitting on over 600. No one would ever catch you in the PSL, in the current you know, era.
“So, now, it’s woulda, shoulda, coulda. But there is a possibility this is what he could have, the legacy he could’ve built for himself.
“But having said that, I think when he’s sitting by himself, he looks at himself in the mirror, ‘You say, you’ve done well boy, but could’ve done better’.
“Yeah like I said, not only sad in the whole situation, how it’s going now, but disappointed with both the club and him and his team that is managing him.
“Everyone could’ve dealt with this much better,” the Kaizer Chiefs legend concluded.
