Kaizer Chiefs closing in on another Royal AM star amid club turmoil, according to Soccer Laduma.
With Royal AM facing ongoing challenges, some players could soon seek new clubs—and winger Mfundo Thikazi is among them. Sources indicate that Kaizer Chiefs are keeping a close eye on the talented attacker, reigniting their previous interest in securing his signature.
Chiefs’ longstanding interest in Thikazi
Kaizer Chiefs have tracked Thikazi for multiple transfer windows, but previous attempts to sign him fell through. However, the current instability at Royal AM may pave the way for a potential move.
A reliable source close to the situation shed light on the latest developments.
“Yes, it’s not the first time Chiefs have shown interest in him. But in the past, things were not finalized. Given Royal AM’s situation now, his move to Chiefs is possible. It could happen at the end of the season. Things are looking good, and it could be beneficial for the player as well,” the source revealed.
Contract situation and transfer possibilities
Although several Royal AM players face contract expirations in June, Thikazi still has one year left on his deal. This means Chiefs would need to negotiate a transfer fee to bring him on board.
“There are some players at Royal AM whose contracts are ending in June, and they are reluctant to sign extensions due to the club’s situation. But with Mfundo (Thikazi), he remains under contract. Chiefs would have to buy him if they are serious about signing him. However, I don’t think that will be an issue as he won’t be too expensive,” another insider explained.
Thikazi’s journey and Royal AM’s struggles
Having been with Royal AM since its Royal Eagles days in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Thikazi is one of the club’s longest-serving players. The 25-year-old featured in several matches this season before Royal AM’s operations were disrupted by curatorship and a suspension imposed by the Premier Soccer League.
With his future uncertain and Kaizer Chiefs actively monitoring the situation, could Thikazi be the next big signing for Amakhosi? Only time will tell.
