MTN8 spot in jeopardy?

Despite the defeat, Kaizer Chiefs remained in eighthplace on 25 points from 19 games played to date.

Amakhosi have won seven, lost eight and drawn four games.

They are a full 29 points behind log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, but have played one fewer match.

Kaizer Chiefs are desperately clinging to a MTN8spot, but worryingly for their supporters, they have played as many – or more – matches than almost all of their nearest challengers.

Amakhosi fans don’t need reminding that their team failed last season to qualify for this season’s lucrative MTN8 tournament.

The Glamour Boys will look to move up the table when they host 15th-placed Magesi FC at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 4 March.

Kick-off is at 19:30.

If the log were to remain the same as it currently looks until the end of the season, these teams would contest next season’s MTN8:

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Kaizer Chiefs

Orlando Pirates vs AmaZulu FC

Sekhukhune United vs TS Galaxy

Polokwane City vs Stellenbosch FC
