Kaizer Chiefs must diffuse Lucas Ribeiro Costa to stand a chance at beating the league leaders, Masandawana.
The 26-year-old forward is having a season to remember, topping the scoring charts with eleven goals in seventeen games and a second-best six assists.
Keep Ribeiro at bay, and AmaKhosi will, judging by the season thus far, minimise Sundown’s attempts at goal, alleviating their defensive demands, which is never a bad thing.
Orlando Pirates failed to do so in early February and paid the price, losing 4-1, Riveiro running rampant, scoring a brace while creating several chances in between.
Retired Sundowns star Teko Modise believes the leading goalscorer is ready to inflict pain on Kaizer Chiefs, saying, “Lucas Ribeiro will be eager to showcase his talent and make his mark in such a high-stakes clash. I think Ribeiro has proven himself and now it’s just a matter of what other individual accolades he can further win,
“These are the types of games that place a player into those types of conversations,
“If you are not already in that conversation, match-winning performances in the big games prove to all why you belong in these types of conversations, because Saturday’s encounter is a huge game, it’s a sold-out affair.”
Zwane to stay at Sundowns
The Brazilians are reportedly preparing a one-year contract extension – with the option for a another season – for club legend Themba Zwane.
“The new deal is as good as done and the coach has played an important part in that,” a Siya source confirmed.
“As a way of honouring him, the club has given him a one-year contract offer plus a one-year option as they want him to be part of the FIFA Club World Cup in June and that’s when his contract was supposed to expire,” they added.
“They believe it’s a good move as he has dedicated his life to the club for a long time and the new deal is more of a reward for his dedication and commitment to the club.”
