A Johannesburg-based TikToker is facing criminal charges after a disturbing video of him force-feeding beer to a fish went viral, sparking public outrage.
In the video, the man is seen holding a fish and pouring beer into its mouth while laughing. A second clip features him making two fish “kiss” for his own amusement.
The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) has since identified the individual and confirmed that charges will be filed under the Animals Protection Act 71 of 1962.
NSPCA spokesperson Jacques Peacock condemned the act, emphasizing the rising number of animal cruelty incidents circulating on social media platforms like TikTok.
He mentioned that the NSPCA’s inspectors are investing considerable time and effort to track down those responsible for such offenses.
“The NSPCA will be laying criminal charges against the individual seen in this recent viral video,” Peacock said. “It’s important to hold individuals accountable for their actions.”
