Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro refuse to speak much about Monnapule Saleng‘s situation.
The 26-year-old winger has not kicked a ball for over two months now and the club has yet to give details on why. Saleng has made a total of 13 appearances across all competitions scoring five goals and creating one assist.
Following Orlando Pirates’ 4-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, some fans took to X (Twitter) to demand the return of Saleng in the starting eleven. Some pundits also felt that the winger could have given the Buccaneers more legs upfront as an impact player against Donws.
This week, Bucs coach Jose Riveiro responded to a question about Saleng’s whereabouts.
“I don’t speak about the health of my players; it’s something that belongs to the private space, and the moment the club feels that it’s the right time to speak about which players are injured, how long they are going to take and which process of recovery they are in, [they will]. It’s not part of my job description; it’s not an ethical thing,” Riveiro said as FARPost.
Saleng has not played for Orlando Pirates since December
“I know it will be nice to know how close is Olisa [Ndah] or [Goodman] Mosele and what’s happening with Saleng but it’s not going to happen,” said Riveiro.
This week, Saleng’s agent, Karabo Tshabuse of P Management Sports refused to duel too much of the player’s absence.
“I’m not in a position to comment on anything regarding my client at the moment,” Tshabuse told Kick Off. “Unfortunately, I’m not giving commentary on enquiries.”
It remains to be seen if Saleng will still be an Orlando Pirates player next season. He hasn’t kicked a ball in over two months now.
Will Saleng ever play for the Buccaneers again?
