KZN police have confirmed that they have opened a case of intimidation after a spent bullet projectile was found on MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure Martin Meyer’s office in Durban.

The bullet was found by staff members on Monday, 3 February.

BULLET PROJECTILE FOUND ON KZN MEC MARTIN MEYER’S DOORSTEP

The department’s spokesperson Steve Bhengu said the bullet was found by staff members who were reporting to the office in the morning as per usual. However, Meyer was not at the office at the time.

Bhengu said this was the second incident involving Meyer. The first incident happened shortly after Meyer was appointed MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure in 2024 and declared war against “construction mafias”.

“KZN Public Works and Infrastructure is currently taking a strong stance against corruption and fraud with a number of senior officials facing disciplinary processes and some even dismissed.

“In response to the latest bullet incident, MEC Meyer is adamant that no amount of threats will deter him from rooting out corruption and malfeasance within the department. The MEC remains committed to continuing the positive trajectory that KZN Public Works and Infrastructure finds itself in which will see it being a department that works for the people of KZN once again,” Bhengu said.

POLICE CONFIRM CASE OF INTIMIDATION

The South African Police Service (SAPS) in KZN confirmed the incident and that a case has been opened at Mayville.

“Mayville police have opened a case of intimidation following an incident in which a spent projectile was found on the outside of an office building along King Cetshwayo Highway on Monday, 3 February,” KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said.
