The public has been given a glimpse into the new US homes being occupied by Afrikaner “refugees”. And according to South Africans on social media, it’s pretty “basic” in comparison to their lives back home.
Earlier this month, 49 white South Africans arrived in the US under President Donald Trump’s resettlement programme.
More have signed up for the programme, which is open to all “racial minorities” in SA.
INSIDE AFRIKANER REFUGEE HOMES
In a clip posted by Lifting Hands International, an NGO that helps resettle refugees, the public was given a glimpse at a home being prepared for an Afrikaner family.
The house is based in Utah, which is one of several states that will rehome the “persecuted” minority.
In the clip, the NGO reveals how it plans to provide the family with home supplies like furniture, food, bedding, and even used toys and books for the children.
Anne Perkins, the Refugee Resettlement Manager, said: “It’s just the basics”.
Perkins stated that many other organisations had donated clothing to the refugees, which would be hung up in the cupboards.
“We like to put clothing in the cupboards, so when those children arrive, they can be excited about starting their new life here. And we hope that this gives them the message that they are welcome.

FROM 5-BEDROOM HOUSES TO HAND-OUTS?
While the NGO is preparing homes for refugees who typically are considered impoverished, reports have indicated that many of the “Afrikaner refugees” come from privileged backgrounds in South Africa.
Some, like Gqeberha former Heineken employee Santana de Bruyn and Limpopo granite mining businessman Charl Niehaus, have left behind five-bedroom multi-million rand houses.
On social media, many South Africans were unsure if the new US homes would fit the standard.
@lavishp:“If this is for the 49 refugees from SA. Do you understand where they come from?. Houses with swimming pools, and you give them a wooden shack?”
@luchaewilliams: “Not to be a bubble buster, but the South African ‘refugees’ have more money in their bank accounts than you think.”
@challengenorms1:“Looks like a downgrade from how they lived in South Africa. Even that stove is from 1980”
