Former public protector advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane says she is a technocrat and not a politician hence she ditched the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Last Tuesday Mkhwebane resigned from the Red Berets. She had been a member of Parliament for over a year.
BUSISIWE MKHWEBANE ON WHY SHE DUMPED THE EFF
In her resignation letter, Mkhwebane said she wants to rest and spend time with her family as she felt her expertise was not fully utilised, among other reasons.
TECHNOCRAT LOSES CASE AFTER CASE
Although Mkhwebane describes herself as a technocrat, the South African legal system does not seem to agree.
Mkhwebane has lost several cases, and some of her judgements while serving as public protector have been questioned.
On 9 October, the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria dismissed her application to force the Office of the Public Protector to pay her R10 million gratuity.
Mkhwebane launched the court bid saying the gratuity formed part of her remuneration package and she is entitled to it.
In 2022, the same court invalidated her final report on late finance minister Pravin Gordhan, relating to her investigation into a South African Revenue Services (SARS) IT contract.
Mkhwebane investigated the R100 million tender awarded to Barone Budge & Dominick (Pty) Ltd (BBD) in 2006 by then SARS Commissioner Pravin Gordhan, the Daily Maverick reported. .Â
