Former Bafana Bafana left-back Tsepo Masilela says Kaizer Chiefs should consider signing Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Neo Maema.
The 29-year-old has only featured once for Masandawana in the league this season. Maema only played nine league matches in four seasons, making him one of the most underutilized Premier Soccer League (PSL) stars.
Masilela believes the Sundowns midfielder can bring something to Kaizer Chiefs. Amakhosi have a very young midfield currently and can benefit from bringing a player who has won multiple titles.
“I would say get him if he’s available, and if you want to build a championship side, meaning you want to challenge for the league, you need depth,” Masilela said when asked on Soccer Beatpodcast if Chiefs should consider the attacking midfielder.
Kaizer Chiefs tipped to sign Maema from Sundowns
“We’ve been talking about depth and I think Maema is one of those players who can add value in your team. And you want players that have tasted the feeling of winning championships.
“So he’s someone who can bring experience when you look at his age because he’s 29, if he’s available and I’m Kaizer Chiefs, I would go and get him,” Masilela on the Sundowns midfielder.
Amakhosi have made one midfield signing in Thabo Cele during the January transfer window. The likes of Mduduzi Shabalala have impressed this season but lacked the consistency to push Chiefs in tight matches, especially in the second half of the season.
Signing Maema from Mamelodi Sundowns can give Nasreddine Nabi more options next season and also give Kaizer Chiefs more experience.
