Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has revitalised the club’s interest in Bafana Bafana defender Yaya Sithole.
The Soweto giants were eyeing the Bafana Bafana midfielder two years ago but reportedly backed out. “I’ve talked to Kaizer Chiefs,” Sithole confirmed last season before adding, “We didn’t continue with the negotiations until today. They didn’t submit an official offer; we were just talking, and after that, it stopped there.”
The former Kaizer Chiefs youngster never ventured into the PSL, opting for Europe instead, where he began playing in Sport Lisbon’s academy before settling with Liga Portugal 2 side CD Tondela, who is currently loaning the 26-year-old to first-division side Gil Vicente.
Nabi’s chances of signing Sithole are boosted by the playmaker’s affection for the club, who said, “That’s my club; I love Kaizer Chiefs”.
Interest confirmed
According to reports, Nabi is looking overseas for reinforcements, frustrated by PSL clubs making it difficult for Kaizer Chiefs to sign their players—fair enough.
“The coach has apparently noticed that signing players from rival teams locally is very difficult and that’s why they want to see if they can get players from outside South Africa,” SoccerLaduma stated.
“Of course, the club is still to get the players they need locally but if they can’t then they will go outside the country and that’s why they have reignited their interest in Yaya. He is actually back on their radar,
“They believe he can complement the team very well with the current midfielders of [Gaston] Sirino, [Mdu] Shabalala, [Ox] Mthethwa, [Thabo] Cele, [Yusuf] Maart and even [Edson] Castillo. So, they will be looking at how they can bring him in now.”
Should Kaizer Chiefs try sign Sithole?
