Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker, Junior Khanye, has predicted that his former club to miss out on a Top 8 finish for the second successive season.
Amakhosi finished 10th in the Betway Premiership last season, forcing the team to restructure this campaign. Under Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team, the team has slightly improved by still lacks the quality to compete against the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns.
Khanye believes Kaizer Chiefs will finish outside the Top 8 based on how they are playing.
“I have said this before, Top 8, No!” said Khanye on IDiski TV.
“Remember Chippa United have two games in hand and are behind them. I know that games in hand don’t mean you have the points already. And below that, there’s a team that has games in hand and if those teams win the games in hand. Also, Kaizer Chiefs need to win their games and not focus on other teams; they have to do the job themselves,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs in danger of finishing outside the top 8
Speaking after Chiefs’ 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy, the former SA under 23 star said Amakhosi played well in the first half but failed to convert their chances.
“Coming to this game, Kaizer Chiefs played very well in the first half I need to be honest. Both teams played at high intensity I think it was a good game. Kaizer Chiefs came to the game in the first half and were exciting to watch in the half and could have been better with at least two or three more goals. They should have wrapped it up in the first half but there were players from Chiefs in the half that didn’t come to the party,” he said.
Kaizer Chiefs have failed to qualify for top 8 three times in the PSL history
“Their attack wasn’t really balanced. Glody Lilepo and Pule Mmodi were off and [Wandile] Duba even though he scored he played in patches in the first half. I can only single out [Gaston] Sirino because every time he got the ball he looked threatening,” Khanye concluded.
