- EFF leader Julius Malema has completely changed his stance on Jacob Zuma, moving from being willing to die for him to seeing Zuma as a political opponent.
- Zuma’s new MK party is attracting many EFF members including top leaders but Malema claims this won’t hurt his party’s future
EFF leader Julius Malema says he now sees Jacob Zuma only as a political rival despite once saying he would kill for him.
Their relationship has turned cold as Zuma’s MK party takes top EFF leaders including former deputy president Floyd Shivambu.
Speaking in Gaborone, Botswana, Malema made it clear where he stands.
“I don’t have any relationship with president Zuma. We are political contenders. He is a leader of a political party, I’m a leader of a political party and that’s where our relationship starts and ends,” he said.
This is very different from what he said at a Youth Day rally in Thaba ‘Nchu in 2008: “We are prepared to die for Zuma. We are prepared to take up arms and kill for Zuma.”
As the MK party attracts hundreds of EFF members across the country, including former national chair Dali Mpofu, Malema insists his party is strong.
“It can’t fall apart because you can’t destroy that which you have not built. It is our own child, it is our own baby and we will decide what we do with it. The EFF is the future and it cannot be
destabilised by opportunism,” Malema told the SABC.
