How Orlando Pirates can beat Kaizer Chiefs in the final

Orlando Pirates might be favourites to win the Nedbank Cup, but Kaizer Chiefs pose a threat.

The two teams meet for the second time this month on Saturday afternoon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. This past weekend, the Buccaneers claimed a 2-1 win in a Betway Premiership to extend their winning streak against Amakhosi.

This Saturday, Pirates will look to win six derbies in a row and add to their second silverware of the season. Having secured a double over their rivals this season, the Sea Robbers will need to be sharp and focus against a very desperate Chiefs side.

Three ways Orlando Pirates can beat Chiefs:

Win the midfield battle

Makhehlene Makhaula and Thalente Mbatha struggled in the midfield against Chiefs in the first half. The introduction of Kabelo Dlamini balanced things out and the Buccaneers managed to take control of the game. If the trio can start, then there’s a good chance that Orlando Pirates will beat Chiefs.

Relebohile Mofokeng on the wing

Mokokeng played as a ’10’ in the derby and struggled. He was anonymous for most of the first half until he was deployed in his usual position, which is left wing. If he can slot in on the left and Deon Hotto starts at left-back, the Buccaneers might cook Amakhosi in the final.

Stretch the Chiefs defence

Kaizer Chiefs will likely start with Zitha Kwinika and Miguel Inacio at the back, hoping to keep things tight at the back against Orlando Pirates. The duo don’t have an understanding and their communication might be poor. Jose Riveiro would need Mokokeng, Mbatha, Mohau Nkota and Evidence Makgopa to go at them hard, especially in the early stages of the match.
