How Elias Mokwana’s move to ES Tunis inspired Cameron Ashby

Sekhukhune United‘s up-and-coming talent, Cameron Ashby, has shared how Elias Mokwana’s transfer to ES Tunis has inspired him.

The talented midfielder, Ashby, signed with Babina Noko in July 2024 just before Bafana Bafana international Mokwana could join the Tunisian giants in August 2024.

Ashby has featured in three of the six games that Sekhukhune has played this season, across all competitions.

Although the duo never had the opportunity to play together in a formal game, Mokwana has imparted valuable wisdom to Ashby.

HOW ELIAS MOKWANA’S TRANSFER TO ES TUNIS SERVED AS MOTIVATION FOR CAMERON ASHBY

Ashby, who is a 23-year-old footballer, observed that Mokwana’s move to the Tunisian giants was an “eye-opener”, demonstrating that anything is achievable with dedication.

“You know, from sitting next to him in the changing room and us talking about whatever, seeing him make such a big move to Tunisia and playing for Bafana is an eye-opener,” told FARPost.

“I think I don’t just see him as a mentor but also as a friend. So, it’s definitely a nice thing because I was very happy for him, seeing the move he has made.

“His move is a motivation to all of us that, you know, if you keep working hard, anything can happen.”

Ashby continued: “Someone like him came to training every single day and gave his all. Now, look where he has ended up. That’s what I intend to do. I intend to go down the same path as him, going out there to prove myself at training and on the field on matchday.

“I know God will provide for me, so that’s how I feel about it.”

The midfielder hopes to continue putting in effort and displaying his God-given talent in order to achieve his goal of emulating Mokwana.
