Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus’s salary has been publicly disclosed– but how does it compare to Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos?
The rugby and soccer bosses have both led their national squads on a winning streak in 2024.
HOW MUCH DOES BAFANA BAFANA COACH EARN?
According to Sunday World, Belgian-born Hugo Broos earns roughly R1,5 million a month.
In August, the South African Football Association (SAFA) met with the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture to discuss the possibility of the latter funding Broos’s salary.
Broos, who joined the club in 2021, is the ONLY Bafana coach to lead the squad to back-to-back AFCON qualifiers.Â
The 72-year-old earns considerably less than his predecessors, Carlos Alberto Parreira, Joel Santana, Carlos Queiroz, and Stuart Baxter, who have all failed to perform their expected tasks as coaches.
However, Broos earns only slightly more than former Kaizer Chiefs player Keagan Dolley, who has been cited as the highest-earning soccer star in SA with a R1,45 million salary.
WHAT DOES SPRINGBOKS BOSS RASSIE EARN?
According to RUCK.co.uk, Rassie Erasmus is one of the second highest-paid rugby coaches in the world.
The UK sports site claims the Springboks coach earns £650 000 – or roughly R15 million – per annum. This means he takes home around R1,5 million each month.
The 52-year-old is paid by SA Rugby, of which he was previously the director.
Interestingly, the world’s England boss, Steve Borthwick – who is the highest paid with a £700 000 or R16 million salary – was not behind the country’s only Rugby World Cup win in 2003.
Meanwhile, South Africa boasts four World Cup titles: 1995, 2007, 2019, and 2023, the latter two under Rassie Erasmus’s guidance.
Surprisingly, Springbok Cheslin Kolbe earns more than coach Rassie. According to reports, he takes home earnings of R1.83 million a month for the Japanese-based club Tokyo Sungoliath.
