Why are cats good hunters at night?
Cats have incredibly adapted eyes that allow them to thrive in low-light environments. Their vertical, slit-shaped pupils can open and close quickly, enabling them to adjust to changing light conditions about 50% faster than humans.
This rapid adjustment is why cats are such effective hunters, able to navigate and pounce with precision even in dim lighting. Their eyes also have a higher number of rod cells, which are responsible for vision in low light, compared to cone cells, which detect color.
This adaptation helps cats see well in near-darkness, making them efficient nocturnal predators. Additionally, their ability to judge distances with remarkable accuracy is another advantage for stalking prey.
Stay healthy and keep those furry friends happy!
