South African singer and songwriter, Holly Rey continues to issue a health update following her hospitalisation since December after she was diagnosed with severe dehydration which led to an acute kidney injury, also known as renal failure.

Recently, the Spend My Time singer took to her Instagram page to unpack what strength means to her after dealing with numerous health issues in a short space of time.

She shared that after somebody came up to her and told her how strong she was, she refuted that because they don’t know how many times she cried feeling overwhelmed, and felt like giving up in the past few months.

Holly shared that oftentimes, being strong and having strength is perceived as being a fighter every day, being better than everyone else, doing better each day and getting better at something each day, or not letting anybody see when you are struggling and not showing “weakness”. Ultimately, she came to a realisation that strength in none of that, but to wake up and try.

She reflected on how the past three months have brought change in her health, how she was diagnosed with kidney failure, anaemia, and high BP leading to her going on the pump, becoming vegetarian for health reasons, learning new things about my body and how to help my body heal.

“I’ve found that waking up each day and dealing with what I can or with what I have the capacity for has been the only way to deal with everything. Taking bite-sized chunks rather than trying to deal with everything at the same time. I have found my strength in waking up and trying my best! Some days that looks like doing multiple tasks and some days it looks like just being able to shower. But the biggest achievement is that I wake up and make the effort to try my best. Some days are good and some days are bad but slowly the bad days get fewer and the good days come around more often,” she penned.
