Wydad ACcoach Rulani Mokwena must be devastated by the fact that he’s not going to be at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
And that’s because his agent Steve Kapeluschnik and Wydad have agreed that Mokwena will leave at the end of the season.
The 38-year-old mentor joined Wydad with the hope of reviving them and leading them at the FIFA Club World Cup.
However, the latest developments simply mean Wydad will be led by a different coach when the tournament starts.
This is surely heartbreaking for Mokwena after he worked hard (with Sundowns) to be at the extended global showpiece only to be sacked later.
He had hoped to be with Sundowns after a decent run in last season’s CAF Champions League.
But the Sundowns hierarchy felt his efforts did not match their expectations, and Mokwena was subsequently fired.
Now, despite taking Wydad from sixth (last season) to third this season with five games to go, Mokwena’s efforts are still deemed not enough.
And while he can still lead Wydad to CAF Champions League qualification by finishing second in the Botola Pro 1 log, the club bosses no longer think he’s the right man for the job.
The 22025 FIFA Club World Cup will take place in the USA between 16 June and 13 July.
NO FIFA CLUB WORLD CUP FOR RULANI
“I’ve flown to Morocco to meet with the club and president Hisham Ait Menna regarding the future of Rulani and his technical team,” Kapeluschnick said as quoted by Hollywoodbets Sports.
“It was agreed that no matter the outcome of the remaining matches, the two parties have made a commitment that Rulani will be the coach until the end of the season; thereafter, he will respectfully part ways with the club.”
