Donell Mbele – who is facing two counts of rape – has called for justice for Cwecwe, a seven-year-old schoolgirlwho was also brutally raped. The son of actress Sonia Mbele and businessman Leslie Sedibe is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court later this month.
DONELL MBELE CALLS FOR JUSTICE FOR CWECWE
Like many South Africans, Donell Mbele has called for swift justice for Cwecwe, whose horrific rape made headlines around the country and the world.
The 23-year-old aspiring entertainer posted a screenshot of a poster on his IG Stories highlighting the brutal crime. Ironically, the poster was originally featured on the social media platforms of anti-gender-based violence activists Women For Change. The activists have previously called out Mbele for his rape of an underage girl.
Founder Sabrina Walter told The South African in January: “We are so proud of the survivor for her bravery and strength in opening a case against Donell, especially given the significant pressure of his mother being a well-known celebrity. It takes immense courage to speak out in situations like this.
Sabrina added: “Our justice system is consistently failing our women. Accountability is crucial if we are ever to see meaningful change in the fight against GBVF.”.
Earlier this year, Donell Mbele was arrested and released on bail on two counts of rape against his underage girlfriend.
In 2022, Donell was accused of threatening to beat and rape another woman, his ex, Reokeditswe Makete.
REPEAT OFFENDER?
In late 2022, Donell Mbele made headlines when his then-girlfriend, Reokeditswe Makete, accused him of wanting to “kill” and “rape” her after being allegedly assaulted by him.
The young woman shared pics of her injuries as well as screenshots of messages allegedly sent by him.
Donell’s mother, Sonia Mbele, responded to the allegations with a statementcondemning her son’s actions.
A part of it read: “Donell will face his demons, take accountability for his actions, and let the law take its course.
“Rehab, therapy, and internal healing will prevail.”
