Kaizer Chiefs have a plethora of problems.
From players skipping practice and transfer targets being poached by PSL rivals to sitting ninth on the table, Nasreddine Nabi couldn’t have expected life to be this tough – after all, they’re, alongside Orlando Pirates, the biggest club in South Africa.
However, like Manchester United, they have become a shadow of their former selves, unable to assert dominance, winning one of their last seven games.
Players on the move?
- Gaston Sirino was one of seven players to join during the offseason and has been a player this season, however, the PSL veteran has been a nuisance off the field having reportedly skipped several practices, infuriating Tunisian coach Nabi. If Sirino continues, his contract could be terminated.
- AmaKhosi youngster Mduduzi Shabalala has been a rose among thorns and is expected to sign a new three-year deal with the Soweto giants.
- Kaizer Chiefs are willing to spend R50 million for Oswin Appollis, Fiston Mayele and Feisal Salum this January transfer window, however, whether the players will join is yet to be confirmed.
Kaizer Chiefs set to invest in young talent
“The club (Chiefs) is making sure they keep almost all their valued youngsters because in the past they have lost some of them to rivals and that’s why they have offered Mdu (Shabalala) another three-year contract. You remember he signed a three-year contract in June 2022 until June 2025? And the one the club has tabled now will take his stay at Naturena until at least June 2028. That’s what the club is looking at,” said a SoccerLaduma source.
“At the moment we can’t say it’s a done deal already. But he is a Kaizer Chiefs youth product and he loves to be at the club and that works well in the negotiations as both the club and player need each other. So it looks positive that before the end of the current season Mdu (Shabalala) would have put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.”
