Gash 1 and Thato are not publicizing their love life

Former Big Brother Mzansi couple Gashwan “Gash1” and Thato Mthombeni recently revealed that they were approached to star in their own reality TV show, but turned the offer down.

The fan-favourite duo, who met during season 3 of the popular show and got married just six months after making their relationship official, opened up about the decision in a YouTube video.

Despite the appeal of returning to TV and the excitement from fans, Thato made it clear that her refusal was personal and deeply intentional.

“I don’t want to do reality TV because I say no first as an individual,” she explained.

“There’s no reality show I’ve seen where people showcase their romantic relationships or families and come out better. Those things destroy.”

For Thato, the risk to her mental well-being and relationships wasn’t worth it, regardless of the paycheck.

“I don’t care how much money you are putting down. I am not going to put myself in a situation for something to break me down. That is not going to happen. Peace at all costs. I can lose millions. It is detrimental to everyone around you,” she said firmly.

Now juggling acting, co-hosting a weekend slot on Metro FM with the Naked DJ, and a role in the food industry, Thato is focused on preserving her personal and professional balance.

Gash1, who’s focused on modelling and business, echoed her sentiments.

He emphasized the importance of controlling how he’s perceived publicly: “There are things I need to refrain from saying because it will taint the brand itself. You always need to uphold a good image no matter how you are feeling.”
