Gabadinho Mhango breaks silence on the failed Kaizer Chiefs move, according to FARPost.

Malawian international Mhango has finally spoken out about the disappointment of his failed transfer to Chiefs. The prolific centre-forward, now playing for Marumo Gallants, was on the verge of joining the Soweto giants in 2023 when the deal unexpectedly collapsed at the last minute.

Amakhosi were in dire need of a centre-forward at the time, with Caleb Bimenyimana’s exit looming and Ashley Du Preez as their only reliable option. The club aggressively pursued strikers but only secured one signing, Ranga Chivaviro, from Marumo Gallants ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Mhango, who was with AmaZulu FC, had high hopes of donning the famous black and gold jersey. He even made the trip from Durban to Johannesburg, expecting to finalize the move. However, the deal mysteriously fell apart.

“Up to now, I don’t even know what happened” – Mhango

The former Orlando Pirates striker expressed his frustration, shedding light on how close he was to joining Chiefs.

“It wasn’t just talk, but I was about to go to Chiefs, and then things turned around. Up to now, I don’t even know what happened,” Mhango revealed.

“I was at AmaZulu, and I actually traveled from Durban to Joburg to complete the move. I was happy that I was going to be at Chiefs, but then things happened.

“I was looking forward, but at the end of the day, I was disappointed as it failed to happen. However, I am loving the game and the place where I ended up.”

Finding stability at Marumo Gallants

After the failed transfer, Mhango joined Moroka Swallows on a free transfer in August 2023. However, following Swallows’ unfortunate disbandment, the 32-year-old found a new home at Marumo Gallants.

Despite the setbacks, Mhango has performed well for Gallants, contributing three goals and one assist in 14 matches. His primary focus now is helping his team maintain their Betway Premiership status. Currently, Gallants sit in 13th place with 15 points from 14 matches, seven points clear of Royal AM, who occupy the first relegation spot.

Will Chiefs regret their decision?

With Mhango proving his worth at Gallants, questions remain on whether Chiefs made the right call by pulling out of the deal. His experience and goal-scoring ability could have provided the much-needed firepower in their attack.

As Mhango continues his career with resilience and determination, his story serves as a reminder of how unpredictable football transfers can be. One thing is certain—he remains a player to watch in South African football.
