Cape Town water disruptions are back. The City of Cape Town has announced that some areas will have planned interruptions to water service. These temporary interruptions are needed for maintenance and upgrades to improve the reliability of the water supply in those areas.

Several neighbourhoodswill experience water supply shut-offs for important maintenance work.

Neighbourhoods that will experience water disruptions in Cape Town

Eureka Estate (Elsies River): Water will be off from 09:00 to 19:00 on 21 May 2025. This is due to a new water main connection. Water tankers will be available for use at home.

Rusthof (Strand): Water supply will be interrupted from 09:00 to 20:00 on 22 May 2025 as they need to install a pressure reducing valve. Tankers will be on site.

Oranjezicht, Tamboerskloof, Schotchekloof, and Bo-Kaap: Water will be off from 09:00 to 21:00 on 22 May 2025 as they need to replace a broken valve and add new valves and meters.

Parts of Tokai: Water will be shut off from 08:00 to 18:00 on 22 May 2025 to connect new pipelines in Tokai Road and nearby areas.

Macassar: Water will be off from 08:00 to 19:00 on 22 May 2025 to replace a critical control valve. Water tankers will be provided.

The City advises residents to:

  • Store enough clean water in sealed containers before the shutdown.
  • Keep taps closed when the water comes back to prevent damage and waste.
  • Expect the water to be milky or discoloured briefly after it returns because of trapped air.
