Four runners killed in car crash reportedly collided with two trucks

Four runners who tragically died in a car crash reportedly lost their lives after colliding with two trucks on the N3 route, reported Briefly News on 5 March 2025.

The report details the occurrences that led to the tragic death of the four runners. This is after they participated in the Best of the Best Marathon in Durban on Sunday, 2 March.

FOUR RUNNERS KILLED IN COLLISION

The four runners, Siraj Mbale, Adolph Ramalanzwa, Seza Phiri and Mbali Hlatshwayo, were returning to Johannesburg when they were involved in a collision.

This is after they were part of the Best of the Best Marathon 2025. The marathon is hosted by the Durban University of Technology (DUT) and Ama-Ravens Athletics Club.

The Free State World Facebook page posted on the accident. According to the post, it occurred on the N3 between Warden and Villiers in the Free State. Their car collided with two trucks and all four of them sadly died on the scene.

Mthokozisi Khuzwayo, founder of the Marathon and chairman of Ama-Ravens Athletics Club, said this year’s race was the sixth installment since its inception in 2020.

MEMORIAL SERVICE TO BE HELD FOR THE FOUR RUNNERS

Khuzwayo also revealed to the publication that a memorial service will be held for the four runners. It will take place on Thursday, 6 March, at the Renew Church in Pine Slopes AH in Sandton, Johannesburg.

Meanwhile, the Athletics Club has since issued a statement. It extended its condolences to the families of the late runners in their statement.

“As the Best of the Best Marathon Organising Team and Ama Ravens Athletics Club, we extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, loved ones, and the running community. We encourage the running community to stand together in solidarity as we honor and remember these athletes,” the Club’s statement read.

Tributes have been pouring in for the late runners. Many have shared heartfelt messages and condolences to their families and loved ones.
