Former Kaizer Chiefscoach Ernst Middendorp has revealed why he did not sign Kermit Erasmus at Cape Town Spurs.

Erasmus (34) has been without a club since his contract with Orlando Pirates expired last season. He was linked to Cape Town City but the move failed to materialise. The former Bafana Bafana forward then trained with Spurs for a week but it appears as though the Cape-based team decided against signing him.

Speaking to Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach revealed Kermit Erasmus did train with the team.

“He was here for some days but everybody has to understand he is a PSL player and I could see still he has a clear target, a clear direction,” Middendorp said as per iDiski Times.

“We allowed him to train for a week [but] it was not really going to happen that he will be part of the team.

Former Chiefs Middendorp coach rejects Kermit Erasmus

“I think you cannot have a rehabilitation centre or condition centre where somebody gets fit and runs away.

“We had it in the near past, we had Thato Mokeke last year starting with us in January and we could use him earliest as April and played a couple of friendlies before moving on.”

After leaving Pirates, Kermit Erasmus was linked to rivals Kaizer Chiefs but instead, Amakhosi decided to bring in Bucs defender Bongani Sam.

Where should Erasmus go next?
