The Port Alfred Regional Court convicted and sentenced a former SAPS station commander from the Eastern Cape for defrauding the South African Police Service.

SAPS COMMANDER SENTENCED

According to a SAPS media statement, the Port Alfred Regional Court sentenced Ncamisa Donkrag to five years’ imprisonment on Friday, 9 May 202. The former commander pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud. The court suspended the sentence for five years. The court also ordered her to repay SAPS a total of R12 767.80.

In May 2022, Donkrag allegedly claimed she used her private vehicle to travel from Port Alfred to Port Edward, Mount Ayliff, Mzamba, and back. SAPS reimbursed her R8 062.58 for the trip.

In a second fraudulent claim, in September 2022, she said she had travelled to Zwelitsha and Addo and received R4 705.25.

“This sentence will serve as a deterrent to those who may be tempted to commit similar offences. Such an outcome reflects that no matter what position one holds in the SAPS, nobody is above the law,” Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Osagran Naidoo said.
