Former Bafana Bafana star MacBeth Sibaya wowed many with his flair and command of the game.

He is among the few celebrated South African players who had the privilege of starting their senior careers in Europe.

MACBETH SIBAYA’S CAREER

However, despite only managing four appearances for Rosenborg, McBeth Sibaya joined Russian outfit FC Rubin Kazan in 2003.

The KwaZulu-Natal-born Bafana Bafana, a defensive midfielder, had his shot at fame with his stint with III. Kerületi TUE in Hungary in 1998.

The 47-year-old former Jomo Cosmos had his youth career with Aston Villa Durban. He went on to join Mpumalanga Youngsters and II. Kerület in 1998.

However, MacBeth Sibaya was later promoted to the senior team. His stint was not as colourful as many thought it.

In 1999, he joined Jomo Cosmos. The defensive midfielder made over 50 appearances before joining Rosenborg in 2002.

He went on to win big with the club that he left in 2010 after over 130 club appearances. With Rubin Kazan, he won a string of trophies, which include:

  • Two Russian Premier Leagues (2008 and 2009)
  • Russian Super Cup (2010)
  • CIS Cup (2010)
  • La Manga Cup (2005 and 2006)

After leaving the Russian outfit, he returned to the Premier League and joined Moroka Swallows in 2011. However, after two seasons with the Dube Birds, he called it a day and switched the floor to coaching.

MacBeth Sibaya also won big with Bafana Bafana. He boasts over 60 appearances for the national team.

MANAGERIAL ROLES

Since retiring, he has been involved in football across all verticals. In 2013, he joined SuperSport United as an analyst, a position he held until 2015.

MacBeth Sibaya went on to join SuperSport United Reserves in a managerial role before leaving in 2018. However, he was appointed U19 manager at the KZN Football Academythree years later.

He last made headlines in 2022 when FARPost reported that he had joined the Venda Football Academy’s technical team.

Since then, he has been awol, leaving many concerned about his whereabouts. Where is MacBeth Sibaya now?

MAKING A KILLING IN FARMING?

MacBeth Sibaya has been keeping his private life under wraps, leaving many to guess. However, the rumour mill has it that he has been cashing in from farming.

Reports have it that Sibaya and his wife Nicky have been investing heavily in farming and are focused on forming a bridge between the landowner, farmer, and market.

News of their agriculture venture first made headlines in 2022. Speaking to the media, MacBeth’s wife said, “One home, one garden is the answer to food scarcity in our country,” says Nicky, a former chef.

“We want to get our hands dirty. MacBeth’s day starts early in the morning on our farm, or he has meetings on other farms – that’s basically what his life is about now,” she added.
