Sekhukhune United FC is making headlines after it won its legal battle with Tunisian giants Esperance. FIFA ordered the North African club to pay a substantial sum for the transfer of Elias Mokwana.
FIFA ORDERS ESPERANCE PAY SEKHUKHUNE R7.9 MILLION FOR MOKWANA TRANSFER
According to reports, FIFA has instructed Esperance to pay the PSL outfit R7.9 million in accordance with the agreed-upon transfer terms for Mokwana.
The amount includes the original transfer fee of $400 000, which amounts to R7.5 million.
However, a 5% annual penalty interest accrued since August 2024 has ballooned to R7.9 million.
The football governing body has given the North African giants a 45-day deadline to settle the owed amount.
Confirmed reports have it that the four-time CAF Champions League winners were notified about the ruling on the 16th of December, as per the FIFA email.
However, if Esperance fails to meet the payment deadline, it will be punished with a transfer ban prohibiting the club from registering new players domestically and internationally.
Part of FIFA’s letter to Esperance reads, “Pursuant to art. 24 of the Regulations if full payment [including all applicable interest] is not made within 45 days of notification of this decision, the following consequences shall apply:
“1. The Respondent shall be banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, up until the due amount is paid. The maximum duration of the ban shall be up to three entire and consecutive registration periods,
“2. The present matter shall be submitted, upon request, to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee in the event that full payment (including all applicable interest) is still not made by the end of the three entire and consecutive registration periods,” reads FIFA’s letter to Esperance.
