Ex-Sekhukhune United DDC coach Themba Masango is set to join a PSL side in the current 2024/25 campaign.

At Sekhukhune, Masango worked closely with former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould in 2021.

Masango alongside Gould are the coaches that spotted Asekho Tiwani‘s talent and potential, then convinced the club’s CEO Jonas Malatji to bring him on board.

Tiwani has since joined Mamelodi Sundowns after an impressive 2023/24 season in Sekhukhune colours.

THEMBA MASANGO TO RETURN TO KRUGER UNITED

FARPost has learnt from a trusted source that Masango is on the verge of re-joining Motsepe Foundation Championship newcomers Kruger United FC.

The mentor once had a stint with the Mpumalanga outfit when they were still participating in the ABC Mostepe League. He resigned in February 2024 and was replaced by Vusi Mkhatshwa.

Kruger were promoted to the PSL after defeating Thames FC 1-0 in the semi-finals of the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs earlier in June. They went on to lose the final 2-0 against Highbury FC.

“Apparently, Masango got a call yesterday [Monday, 11 November] and travelled to Mpumalanga, where talks will be held between the two parties,” said a source.

Kruger, who were recently promoted to the SA second-tie, started the campaign with Vusi Mkhatshwa, who got them promoted. However, he resigned after just five matches as he felt the team lacked experience in the league.

Masango will be working closely with coach Abram Mangoya at the club. Recently, they acquired the services of former Chiefs and Sundowns star George Maluleka.

HOW KRUGER UNITED FC HAVE FARED IN THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP

In their first season in a professional league, Kruger have had mixed results because of their inconsistency.

After 10 matches played this season, the team finds themselves lying 10th on the log standings. Kruger have registered 12 points following three victories, three draws and four defeats.

Their next encounter in the league will be at home against the University of Pretoria after the international break. Kickoff on Sunday, 24 November, at Mbombela Stadium, is at 3PM.
