The world’s richest man – who hails from Pretoria – considers himself to be an “American who was born in SA.”
ELON MUSK NAMED ‘WORST THING TO COME OUT SOUTH AFRICA’
According to X account, the Politics Video Channel, Elon Musk was named as the “worst thing to come out of South Africa” in a recent poll.
The account tweeted: “We polled 50,000 South Africans between September 2024 and Jan 14th, 2025. Participants were asked what they think are the worst things to come out of South Africa and the best things.”
The X account – which has over 200 000 followers – claimed that the options included:
- Elon Musk
- Apartheid
- Corruption
- Inequality
The X account polled South Africans about what they felt were the “best things to come out of South Africa.”
The poll’s results revealed the following in this order:
- Nelson Mandela
- Desmond Tutu
- CAT scan machine
- Invention of heart transplant
- Pratley’s Putty
PROUD AMERICAN
Although Elon Musk considers himself to be a patriotic American, he was not born in the US.
The wealthy businessman – who boasts three citizenships: South African, Canadian, and American – left his home in Pretoria for work and study opportunities.
Elon emmigrated in 1989 at the age of 17 years old in a move to Canada, his mother Maye Musk’s country of birth.
He later moved to the US in 1995 to pursue his studies. Elon then went on to establish several lucrative businesses in his adoptive country, including Tesla, SpaceX, PayPal, and the Boring Company.
He now holds the title of the world’s richest man. He’s also been appointed by US President Donald Trump to head the US’s new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
