ELEVEN Sundowns players out of contracts, Chiefs and Pirates to pounce?

Mamelodi Sundowns currently have 11 players whose contracts are set to expire in June, which could present an opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to make their move.

Notable players in this group include Themba Zwane, Khuliso Mudau, and Peter Shalulile. Sundowns have been a dominant force in the Betway Premiership, winning nine of the last 11 titles over the past decade.

Last year, the club secured contract renewals for Ronwen Williams and Teboho Mokoena, ensuring their stay for the next two to three years. With Pirates and Chiefs aiming to compete with Sundowns, there is a real risk that they could lose some of their players for free.

This is particularly relevant in light of losing Gaston Sirino to Amakhosi, who has since transformed the Glamour Boys’ attack, scoring five goals across all competitions.

Among the 11 players at risk of contract expiration, Zwane, Mudau, and Shalulile are particularly noteworthy.

Sundowns could lose the likes of Shalulile and Zwane to Pirates and Chiefs

Zwane has been a key figure in Sundowns’ midfield but is currently sidelined due to an injury, which could limit his future in Miguel Cardoso’s plans. If he becomes available, it is likely Chiefs will take an interest.

Mudau was linked with a move to Europe last year, but it remains uncertain whether he will continue at Chloorkop next season.

Shalulile has been Sundowns’ primary offensive threat for years; however, having been overlooked in favor of Iqraam Rayners, the Namibian star may find Chiefs or Pirates to be appealing options.

According to FARPost, other players whose contracts expire in June include Devine Lunga, Terrence Mashego, Marcelo Allende, Jody February, Sipho Mbule, Sphelele Mkhulise, Mothobi Mvala, Musa Lebusa, and Rivaldo Coetzee.
