Nota misses times spent in prison

Nota Baloyi has once again stirred conversation online, this time with a tongue-in-cheek remark that left many Mzansi users raising eyebrows or laughing out loud.

The controversial music executive and podcast host took to X (formerly Twitter) on April 9, reflecting on his past time behind bars with an unexpected twist.

Known for his unfiltered takes and headline-making moments, Nota jokingly suggested that soaring electricity costs had him missing life in prison.

“Electricity prices will make you miss prison…” he posted, prompting a flood of mixed reactions.

While some critics accused him of romanticising incarceration, others found his comment relatable in light of South Africa’s ongoing struggles with load shedding and high utility costs.

Still, a few netizens expressed concern, reminding him that prison is not a place to be missed, regardless of the circumstances.

Nota’s post comes months after he served a short stint at Johannesburg Prison—popularly known as Sun City—in 2024, following a contempt of court ruling.

Although he only spent just over two weeks in jail, the experience clearly left an impression. He completed the remainder of his 60-day sentence under house arrest, which ended in January 2025.
