EFF to elect new leaders in December

Ahead of the third EFF National People’s Assembly, party leader Julius Malema said only branches that have more than 100 members will be allowed to participate.

He was addressing the media at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela House in Johannesburg on Thursday.

The conference happens every five years and is the party’s highest decision-making body.

It is set to sit from 12 to 15 December at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

This is also where the new deputy president of the party will be elected after Floyd Shivambu left to join Umkhonto weSizwe. A new leadership will be elected as the current leadership term has expired.

Malema said out of 2,123 branches, only 1,100 will elect the new leadership.

“In KZN, 14 branches failed to meet the requirements to participate in the conference. They will only be invited as observers to see what other branches across the country are doing so that they can go back to implement,” Malema said.

“We are not planning to disband any structures in KZN; we are going to rebuild with the existing structures.”

Malema said the conference will be held under strict conditions.

“The delegates will sleep at a hotel paid for by the EFF and be transported from there to the venue by us. Those who are disrespectful and part of factions will be shown the door.

“We will take away their tag and this will ensure that everyone abides by the code of conduct and guidelines of the party,” he said.

Malema said the party plans to integrate the EFF Student Command into the EFF Youth League.
