Drizzly start clears as KwaZulu-Natal warms up by midday

KwaZulu-Natal started the day damp, with parts of the province experiencing cloudy skies and drizzly conditions along the East Coast. However, forecasters expect the moisture to lift by mid-morning, making way for improved weather throughout the day.

Despite the early grey skies, the province’s coastal areas remained relatively warm, unlike the cold interior regions. Inland towns experienced temperatures dipping as low as 5°C, while coastal locations enjoyed a milder start.

“It is partly cloudy to cloudy this morning for parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, with drizzly conditions going on along the East Coast,” said Joel Guy, a forecaster.

“But that should go away as we head towards the mid-morning hours.”

Despite a drizzly morning, the coast stays warm

While interior towns faced colder conditions, the coastal belt benefited from the relatively warm ocean currents. Durban and Richards Bay recorded milder lows compared to the chilly highlands.

Despite the improvement expected later, locals are still advised to dress warmly during the early hours, especially in central and western inland parts of the province.

Winds across KZN will remain light and variable throughout the day, allowing for a stable weather pattern to emerge by the afternoon.

No warnings but cool conditions persist

Although KwaZulu-Natal has no weather alerts for the day, the continued presence of clouds and cool air inland may keep the temperatures subdued. Most of the province is expected to experience highs in the lower 20s, with a mix of sun and clouds later in the day.

“Even though the drizzle clears, the interior will still feel quite cold throughout the day,” said Guy.
