DRICUS DU PLESSIS PRAISES TRUMP: SOUTH AFRICANS HAVE MIXED REACTIONS
On Wednesday, 5 February, Dricus du Plessis ruffled a few feathers by publicly praising US President Donald Trump, who has criticised South Africa.
The UFC champion donned a black T-shirt that read: “Trump prefers champions.”
In a UFC media conference, the 31-year-old said of the newly re-elected statesman: “He is amazing, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting him.
“He said good changes are coming. He’s holding many people and countries accountable for everything, and it’s amazing to see”.
Dricus also praised Pretoria-born Elon Musk, who claimed SA had “outright racist laws.”
While many of his supporters agreed with Dricus’s stance, others were angry and disappointed.
@i_likebrandon: “Dricus, don’t bother carrying our flag over your shoulders at your fight this weekend. That’s reserved for people who love South Africa and not for those who support a fascist in Trump.”
@gerald_mashego: “This guy is a terrible ambassador for SA. The government must stop congratulating him.”
@Vutlhar80725363: “This is so embarrassing; even this guy is spreading a false narrative..wait till he loses the belt. I’m sure his eyes will open.”
