Dog shoots owner in bed, paws stuck in trigger

An American dog owner was accidentally shot by his pet after it jumped onto his bed and accidentally discharged a loaded gun in Memphis on Wednesday.

According to the US police, the dog managed to fire the weapon and injure its owner during the incident. The 39-year-old victim was relaxing and talking with a female friend on his bed when the dog jumped up, and its paw got caught in the trigger guard, pulling the trigger and discharging the gun.

Police reported that the man was grazed in the left thigh. Officers found a single spent shell casing on the floor after the shooting. The victim received treatment at the scene before being taken to a medical center for further care, but his injury was not considered critical.

The female friend of the victim, who has not been publicly identified, left the scene shortly after the incident. When officers asked the dog owner about the weapon, he indicated that the woman took it with her when she left.

A spokesperson for the Memphis Police Department said that they did not have further information to provide.

CBS News affiliate WREG identified the dog as Oreo, a one-year-old pit bull. A friend of the victim told WREG that Oreo is very friendly and that the victim was doing fine after the shooting.

In 2017 incident, a hunter in north-central Iowa was accidentally shot and wounded when a dog that stepped on a shotgun’s trigger guard and the gun fired, KWTX reported.
