Pitso Mosimane has abruptly left another football club which will come as no surprise to anyone. Maybe Kaizer Chiefs IS perfect for him?
Pitso Mosimane is looking for a job, again
There’s no denying Pitso Mosimane’s pedigree and success on the African continent. ‘Jingles’ enjoyed glittering spells with Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly, scooping the Caf Champions League with the Brazilians in 2016 and winning that title twice with Ahly in 2020 and 2021. However, since Pitso left Egypt, he’s held four managerial posts and none of them have lasted longer than 15 matches. What’s going on there and why do Mosimane and his technical staff keep moving around? Do they fall out with clubs that quickly?
His latest post at Esteghlal went dismally; under his tutelage, the team picked up just 1.14 points per game in league outings. That’s by far Pitso’s worst-ever average in that metric.
Kaizer Chiefs have been courting Pitso Mosimane for a while
There’s never a certainty for the incumbent Kaizer Chiefs boss or how long their tenure will be, such is the pressure of the fish bowl environment surrounding one of the continent’s most followed clubs. Is he the right man though? There have to be doubts. For all of his pedigree and winning mentality, Pitso also brings a considerable level of chaos, volatility and unpredictability to the party. Chiefs don’t necessarily need those traits right now. Chaos could bring excitement, but it could cause a slide down the league standings.
Nabi will be given at least two more transfer windows
January 2025, on paper, has been a fruitful period for the Glamour Boys. In come strikers Tashreeq Matthews and Glody Lilepo, as well as Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabo Cele.
Soweto Derby is next and Orlando Pirates have been on top recently
Pirates have held the upper hand in recent meetings between these great rivals. The Buccaneers have won the last three meetings across all competitions, including each of the last two in the league, most recently that 3-2 success for the Sea Robbers in March 2024 with Monnapule Saleng bagging a double. That stopped a curious and somewhat surprising run of five consecutive wins for Chiefs in Soweto Derby league clashes with the Sea Robbers. These rivals lock horns again on Saturday 01 February at Orlando Stadium from 15:30.
Where should Pitso go next?
