Doc Shebeleza’s final album to be released before Easter Holidays

Veteran singer, Victor Bogopane who was popularly known as Doc Shebeleza has a pleasant surprise for mzansi beyond his grave.

Doc who was laid to rest on Saturday after a long illness, will have his farewell album titled, My Friend, released before the Easter Holidays to fulfill his wish.

Thabo Qofelo popularly known as DJ Masapo, who worked with the singer on the album told Daily Sun that Doc planned to release the album as his final album while he was still alive, as he was planning on retiring from music.

Speaking to the publication, DJ Masapo who is a producer from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni said: “This is the last album he wanted to release before he died. He used to say to me, ‘Masapo, this album is my last. it’s going to be Doc Shebeleza and DJ Masapo. I’m leaving the game in your hands so you can carry on making music’,” he said.

Doc’s last album was released in 2009, titled Charmer Boy. DJ Masapo also revealed to the publication that this is not his first project with the Ghets Ghetsa hit maker, he had worked with him on previous albums as well.

The kwaito pioneer has recently been laid to his final resting place at Westpark Cemetry. At his funeral service, Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie said government continues to fail local artists.

The minister was among the speakers in the funeral, and he said: “We failed artists. Artists in this country can’t even buy furniture. They don’t have three-month bank statements that show frequent income. Artists in this country are not known as workers. Artists in this country is number one when it comes to exploitation,” said Min. Gayton.
