Fans of the late musician DJ Sumbody will soon have the privilege of remembering him for the person he was as his foundation is set to launch a posthumous single in his memory.
According to the news publication TshisaLive, the song, Somebody Nice is said to be produced by Junior Taurus and features Murumba.
The musician whose real name is Oupa John Sefoka was shot and killed in Johannesburg in November 2022. With this year officially marking two years following his tragic passing, the duo wanted to create a feel-good anthem that reminds listeners of the late DJ’s distinctive signature sound.
Speaking on the process, Junior Taurus highlighted that the beat was something well familiar to the late Sumbody.
“Sumbody heard this particular beat in one of our sessions and he liked it. He had a talent for A&Ring, hearing an instrumental for the first time and immediately knowing which artist would fit. He took a beat I had no faith in and heard magic,” he revealed.
It is further reported that the song will be launched at a black tie event where industry friends and colleagues will honour his legacy at the unveiling of his foundation.
Despite his murder having taken place two years ago, there have still been no arrests. Last month SAPS announced that the case would be closed because of a lack of evidence.
Speaking to Daily Sun, his brother Koketso expressed the family’s frustration.
“It’s not easy, because we haven’t found closure.”
He also spoke about the soon-to-be-launched foundation.
“The DJ Sumbody Foundation is a legacy project founded by the Sefoka family and partners to be a vehicle of change and supporters of my brother’s work. We aim to be agents of change when it comes to issues such as entrepreneurship, education and arts.”
The launch will take place on 21 November.
