Late boxer Dingaan Thobela’s children are allegedly fighting with their grandfather over their father’s estate.
Thobela lost his fight to an undisclosed illness on Monday, 29 April at 57 years old. He was laid to restat the West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg on Thursday, 9 May.
DINGAAN THOBELA’S FATHER WANTS CHILDREN’S DNA TESTS
Zimojareports that Godfrey Thobela wants DNA tests of Dingaan’s children prior to them receiving anything from the boxer’s estate.
The documents reveal that Godfrey is demanding DNA tests for the children to prove they are his grandchildren.
The late boxer’s father confirmed to the publication that he indeed wants DNA tests conducted.
“The late Bongani Dingaan Thobela reluctantly supported most if not all of his children, as he always maintained the fact that only the mother of the child knows the true paternity. He always expressed uncertainty and doubts about fathering some of the children.”
GODFREY THOBELA’S PATERNITY MATTER STRUCK OFF COURT ROLL
TimesLIVEreported on Tuesday, 15 October that Godfrey Thobela who is the father of Dingaan Thobela, left the Johannesburg high court unhappy on Monday after his plea for his alleged 10 grandchildren to undergo DNA tests was struck off the roll.
When the judge asked the 78-year-old pensioner why he came on urgent basis, he said answered that according to his culture and tradition pregnant women should report pregnancies to the family of the alleged father of the child. All the mothers had failed to comply with this practice, which made him also have doubts,
The judge said the matter “was not enrolled in accordance with the rules” and therefore he could not establish urgency and so removed the matter from the roll.
Speaking exclusively to the publication, Godfrey said he wants the DNA [tests]. He will explore legal options to allow him to finish what he had started.
Bongani Thobela, who is the late boxer’s brother tells the publication that four of the 10 children claiming from the estate were unfamiliar to the Thobela family.
He also rubbishes reports that their father wants the boxer’s estate: “My father doesn’t want to benefit at all from his son’s estate. It all actually has to go to the children and that is fair enough, but we have to protect the family the Thobela name.”
“Some children are familiar, and some are not so that’s where the problem is. We’ve got one from Rustenburg, one from Mpumalanga … with others,” says Bongani.
Sowetanreports that Dingaan Thobelahas two children, a daughter called Ntombi, and a son named Dingaan Junior with his ex-wife Sandra.
Sunday World reported in 2014 that Sandra claimed Dingaan fathered three children out of wedlock with a Johannesburg woman.
