  • DA leader Solly Msimanga says Gauteng premier Lesufi has failed to deliver on promises about jobs, safety and fighting corruption.
  • Msimanga claims Gauteng’s 16 million people are protected by only 143 understaffed and poorly equipped police stations.

The DA has attacked Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi for making big promises but failing to deliver.

The official opposition in the Gauteng Legislature says businesses are scared to invest in the province because Lesufi hasn’t fixed its problems.

Speaking at their own “Real State of the Province Address” on Thursday, DA Gauteng leader Solly Msimanga said Lesufi had let down the people of Gauteng.

“His populist strategy has misled the residents to believe that under his leadership of the Government of Provincial Unity, strides were going to be made to improve lives,” said Msimanga.

“He has excelled in arrogance, broken promises, and denialism, and his administration does not appear to be prepared with solutions for the major challenges in the severe water crisis, overcrowded schools, and hospitals.”

“He promised to fight corruption and crime for the economy to grow, yet he refuses to release crucial reports that would implicate officials and politicians involved in maladministration and corruption,” he said.

The DA leader pointed out that only 143 police stations protect more than 16 million people in Gauteng. He said these stations lack staff and resources.

Msimanga also attacked Lesufi’s job creation programmes. He said the Nasi Ispani project left workers without pay, and 32,000 teacher assistants lost their jobs when their contracts ended.

The DA claims that Special Economic Zones and industrial parks meant to boost business have turned into junkyards.
