South African-American hip-hop artist and producer DA Les is reportedly recovering in the USA after suffering a stroke last year.

According to ‘The Sowetan’, the stroke happened on his 39th birthday, turning what should have been a celebratory day into a shocking health scare.

A high-energy birthday event was planned, but a last-minute cancellation was posted on his Instagram, leaving fans concerned.

Reports from ‘Zimoja’ stated that DA Les has since relocated to Washington, D.C., where his mother, Priscilla Mampe, has lived for years.

A close family friend revealed that she took him there to help with his recovery, providing him with the care and support he needs.

The friend also mentioned that DA Les, real name Leslie Jonathan Mampe Jr., is no stranger to the area, having spent significant time visiting his mother over the years.

DA Les first made waves in the music industry as part of the dynamic hip-hop group Jozi, alongside Ishmael (Ish), Bongani Fassie (Bongz), and Crazy Lu (Luther Yakanawa Cohen).

He later carved out a successful solo career, with hit tracks like ‘Heaven’, ‘Fire’, and ‘Real Stuff’ earning him critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase.

Over the years, he has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music, including the late AKA and Riky Rick.

His discography boasts collaborations with JR, DJ Speedsta, Burna Boy, Kid X, DJ Milkshake, Gemini Major, and Nadia Nakai on chart-topping hits like ‘All Eyes on Me’, ‘Kontrol’, and ‘Summer Love’.

Beyond music, DA Les has showcased his vibrant personality on reality TV, appearing in ‘The Real Jozi A-Listers’ and ‘Love & Hip Hop South Africa’. He is also a dedicated father of two.
