- DA wants an investigation into a R3 million security deal given to a company once owned by current Tshwane deputy mayor Modise.
- The company now run by the mother of Modise’s child owes R59-million in unpaid taxes to SARS.
The DA wants investigators to look into a security company linked to Tshwane’s finance MMC and deputy mayor Eugene Modise.
Modise owned half of Triotic Protective Services and was a director until 1 March 2023 when he became an ANC councillor.
The company got a deal to guard city offices in 2016/2017. It now reportedly gets R3 million a month for the work.
The DA claims Modise still makes money from the deal because the company address hasn’t changed and his child’s mother is now the director.
Former finance MMC Jacqui Uys said: “It has come to light that Neo Mofodi, the mother of Modise’s child who worked as an HR officer is now the director.
“In 2023 the security company had a judgement against non-payment of R59m of taxes towards the South African Revenue Services (SARS) over 5 years.
“This raised concerns that the company might not have a tax clearance when submitting their bid and would not have qualified to be awarded the tender.
“These revelations raise serious questions about possible conflict of interest and financial dealings within the City of Tshwane,” she said.
ANC Tshwane secretary George Matjila said Modise told the party about his role in the company.
“The bitterness of the DA councillors who were once at the helm has become normal. They hold no positions in the metro and are now using their free time to peddle lies,” he said.
Mayor Nasiphi Moya said in a statement that Modise never hid his past links to the company.
“We support an independent and thorough investigation to address the claims transparently.
“Should any irregularities be uncovered, we will follow due process and take appropriate actions,” she said.
