Bafana Bafanaforward Fagrie Lakay has been linked to Kaizer Chiefs despite enjoying his football in Egypt.
The 27-year-old joined Egyptian giants Pyramids in 2022 where he made 76 appearances and scored 26 times. This season however, the former Cape Town City has been loaned to Ceramica Cleopatra where he has made 11 appearances and has two goal.
Speaking to iDiski Times, Lakay said he was happy in North Africa despite links to Kaizer Chiefs.
“I would like to stay on this side of the world for as long as possible and maybe move back home at a later stage in my career,” he said.
Lakay has only six caps for Bafana Bafana and despite showing good form in his first two season, he hasn’t impressed Hugo Broos. He said his intention is to earn a Bafana call-up and return to the national set-up.
Lakay not joining Kaizer Chiefs…for now
“Very, very proud of what they achieved! It was amazing to watch. Yes definitely, like I told you before, it’s always an honour to play for the national team and that’s definitely the aim — to get back there.
“I just need to continue working hard and scoring and the rest will follow.”
It remains to be seen if Lakay will still be with Pyramids next season. Kaizer Chiefs on the otherhand have aquired the services of Bafana midfielder Thabo Cele and striker Tashreeq Morris.
Should Lakay move to Chiefs?
