After Trump’s headline-grabbing statements last week, interest from Afrikaners to take up US asylum in 2025 has quickly gained momentum. Many initially thought it was something of a joke, but ‘oppressed’ white South Africans seeking US asylum in 2025 have visited embassies and consulates to thank Trump for his generosity.
However, mixed messages from local American representatives have created more confusion than clarity over US asylum in 2025, reports The Citizen. Following wild and unsubstantiated claims about South Africa’s Land Expropriation Act, President Trump gave an executive order to ‘ethnic Afrikaners’ to seek US asylum in 2025 in a new ‘state-facilitated programme’.
CONFUSION OVER US ASYLUM IN 2025
However, as the world learned during his first term in office, actually enacting Trump’s decrees is not always as straightforward as he’d want. In response to Trump’s offer of US asylum in 2025 for Afrikaners, the South African US Mission released the following. “The US State Department is currently coordinating with Homeland Security. We will promote and prioritise humanitarian relief, including consideration of eligibility for admission and resettlement for Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination.”
However, will US authorities limit the executive order to ethnic Afrikaners only? A fact sheet released last week says the following. “As encapsulated in the Land Expropriation Act, the government of South Africa blatantly discriminates against ethnic minority descendants of settler groups. As long as South Africa continues to support bad actors on the world stage, and allows violent attacks on innocent minority farmers, the United States will stop aid to the country. Therefore, the US will establish a plan to resettle minorities who are discriminated against because of their race for US asylum in 2025.”
‘STILL WORKING OUT THE DETAILS’

US authorities say they’re still, “Working out implementation details and we will submit a plan to President Trump soon. This will prioritise humanitarian relief, including resettlement through the USRAP (United States Refugee Admissions Programme) for victims of unjust racial discrimination.” Furthermore, since Trump’s announcement, more than 25 000queries for US asylum have reportedly crashed e-mail servers. Neil Diamond of the South African Chamber of Commerce (SACC) believes as many as 50 000 will eventually gain US asylum in 2025.
Meanwhile, outspoken Afrikaans commentator Willem Petzer plans to hand over a memorandum listing discriminatory laws and other legislative measures that exclude whites from the South African economy. According to the memorandum, there was currently at least 118 race-based laws in South Africa. Plus there has been at least 2 297 murders and at least 6 531 attacks recorded by Transvaal Agricultural Union (TLUSA) between 1990 to 2024.
