Former Johannesburg council speaker Colleen Makhubele will be sworn in as a member of Parliament representing the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
Makhubele, a former Congress of the People (COPE) member expelled ahead of the historic 29 May polls, founded the South African Rainbow Alliance (SARA), ditched it in September, and joined the Zuma-led party.
COLLEEN MAKHUBELE TO BE SWORN IN AS MK PARTY MP
On Wednesday, MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela said Makhubele and Adil Nchabeleng will be sworn in as members of Parliament on Tuesday, 28 January.
Ndhlela said the appointments reinforce the MK Party’s unwavering commitment to transformative policies, socio-economic justice, and national progress.
“As an accomplished public servant and MBA graduate, Makhubele brings a wealth of experience in governance and leadership. She has served as a speaker of the council and chair of chairs at the City of Johannesburg, chairperson of the board of the Metropolitan Trading Company, and non-executive director and board chair of the South African Post Office (SAPO).
“Her track record aligns seamlessly with the MK Party’s vision of people-centred development and transformative change.”
Regarding Nchabeleng, a prince of the Pedi tribe, Ndhlela said he is a leading energy expert who has demonstrated excellence in multiple fields, including project management, ICT, entrepreneurship, investment banking, and as head of Transform RSA.
“His active role in the MK Party’s national high command and economic transformation committee position him as a champion for socio-economic reforms and sustainable development,” Ndhlela said
‘GOD’S WILL’
In September 2024, Makhubele said it was God’s will that she joined the MK Party.
“It was God’s will that I should come to MK Party to realize how much love there is and get my values right. I have had a chance to know myself- neither saint nor devil: just a bundle of capabilities in the hands of God” Let’s Pray for our country; our MKP and our uBaba,” she posted on X.
